Treatment of hypothyroidism
Levothyroxine is a synthetic form of the thyroid hormone thyroxine (T4) and is primarily used to treat hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland doesn't produce enough thyroid hormone.
CPhT certification is a voluntary, national credential for pharmacy technicians, earned by passing one of two exams — the PTCB's PTCE or the NHA's ExCPT — and accepted in all fifty states. It is not a state license: your board of pharmacy registers or licenses you on a separate track, and some states want both. What the CPhT actually is
The credential tells an employer you have passed a national pharmacy-technician exam and can be trusted with the core of the job: reading a prescription, handling the dispensing process, and catching the medication-safety errors that hurt patients. It sits below the pharmacist — the PharmD, NAPLEX, and MPJE are a separate profession, not a harder version of your test. - One credential, two exams: the PTCB's PTCE or the NHA's ExCPT. Either one makes you a CPhT.

Two routes, one credential: PTCB/PTCE vs ExCPT
Both exams award the same credential, so the decision is about fit, not prestige. The PTCB runs the PTCE through Pearson VUE; the NHA runs the ExCPT through PSI and Pearson VUE. They differ in length, in how the score is scaled, and in which employers name them by default — which is exactly the call the route guide is built to settle. Read the table as ballpark shape, not gospel: each body publishes the current numbers, and they move.

Study time follows the weighting, and the weighting is lopsided. Medication safety and the dispensing process together carry most of the exam; law and the technician's role are real but thin. Is CPhT certification a license?
No. The CPhT is a voluntary national certification. Your state board of pharmacy issues any license or registration separately, and requirements vary by state — some want the national cert, some do not.
What is the difference between the PTCE and the ExCPT?
They are two exams that lead to the same credential. The PTCB gives the PTCE; the NHA gives the ExCPT. They differ in length and in how the score is scaled — the ExCPT is scored out of 500, the PTCE on a 1,000–1,600 band — so never compare the two raw numbers. Is CPhT the same as CPT?
No. CPhT (with the little h) is the pharmacy-technician credential covered here. CPT usually means Current Procedural Terminology billing codes or a phlebotomy certification — a different field and a different exam.
How long is the CPhT exam?
Roughly two hours, though the exact time limit and question count differ by route and change over time — verify the current ones on ptcb.org or nhanow.com. Divide the published minutes by the published item count and you get your per-question budget, a little over a minute either way.
